The history of coffee is varied and full of mystery and myths.
The discovery of coffee's origin is a little vague but we have been
able to deduce that coffee came from an original source in Yemen
near the port town of Moca.
As legend tells it a story of love is what brought about the discovery
of coffee. A young man of modest means was in love with the daughter
of an aristocrat. The young man was named Omar, and when he realized
that a life with the woman he loved was impossible he went on a
homanage to the desert. While on his travels he discovered a flowering
tree with red cherries on it. Omar noticed a beautiful bird sitting
on the tree as Omar approached the tree the bird flew off and he
noticed an incredible aroma exuding from the flowers. He decided
to take a few cherries off the tree and back to his camp. He boiled
water and added the fruit the result was a fabulous flavor that
he delighted in. Once he tried the elixir he new he must show it
to others and he brought it back to his home town and was immediately
a hero and the result was he was able to wed the bride of his dreams.
Islam adopted the elixir that Omar discovered and it was revered
through out the entire nation.
